the 19 European Bioenergetics Conference

EBEC is a biannual series that was started by the late Assunta Baccarini-Melandri and by B. Andrea Melandri in Urbino (Italy) in 1980. It became a major event in International Bioenergetics and a meeting point for Scientists from all over the world.

  • Date: from 02 July 2016 at 14:00 to 07 July 2016 at 15:00

  • Event location: Riva del Garda (Trento Province, Italy)

The Conference will cover key aspects of Bioenergetics and its implications for Cell Physiology and Pathology. Topics include – but are not limited to – Biogenesis, Structure, Dynamics and Function of Energy-conserving Organelles, Photosynthesis, Electron Transfer Reactions, Role of coenzyme Q in Physiology and Pathology, Endosymbiotic Gene Transfer, F- and V-ATPases, Ion Channels and Transporters, Calcium and ROS Signalling and key processes like Apoptosis, Necrosis and Autophagy. Mitochondria are key organelles for both cell survival and death. The meeting will also cover their role in Degenerative Diseases, Cancer, Aging, Diabetes and the Immune Response; and as targets for the therapy of a large number of diseases. Special thanks are due to the Organizing Committee and to the Members of the Scientific Committee who helped define the Program. Our grateful thoughts go in particular to Fabrice Rappaport, who will not be able to see the outcome of our efforts. His untimely death is a great loss for all of us, and I express our deep sympathy to his family and friends on behalf of the whole EBEC community.
